It’s a Great Job But…

By admin | August 27, 2007

Thank you to John Sumser and Donna Troisi for featuring our recent announcement about Job Seeker Search Trends and Employers Job Marketing Tips as a “Deep Release” in the August 24,  2007 edition of The Interbiznet Bugler.

The Bugler is a daily emai newsletter for the Recruiting Industry, published by IBN: interbiznet.com

Now…What do you think—

I heard a story recently about a currently employed passive candidate on the East coast who was on the brink of accepting a job offer from a Fortune 100 company on the West coast. It was a big decision on many levels.  One major issue: with the condition of the current housing market, a realtor advised the passive candidate she could expect a 10% loss on the market value of her home which equaled about $50,000 in cash.

The passive candidate relayed this information to the recruiter, he relayed it to the hiring manager and her job offer is in the process of being modified with that issue addressed.  The recruiter asked the passive candidate if there were any other concerns that would influence her decision to accept the offer once it was modified…and she brought up a Tassel Factor:  she did some research and reached out to some people she knew who were familiar with the area she would be relocating to.

Unfortunately, she heard there really wasn’t much of a social or dating scene where the job offer was located. Financial and professional issues aside, this was a personal issue of concern to her.

The recruiter wasn’t surprised.  He’s an industry veteran and he knew enough to ask if there was anything else that would dissuade her from accepting the modified offer. The Hiring Manager was genuinely surprised the social scene could be a potential knockout factor for the candidate.

I’m not  surprised as our recent Workplace Happiness vs Home Happiness Poll indicates Hoe Happiness is #1, Financial Happiness is #2, and Workplace Happiness and ‘both’ tied for #3. Tell me, are you surprised?

Sending you Love, Happiness and Success from the realm~RLP

P.S.

Do you or someone you know have a “Worst Job Interview…Ever” video story to share? That’s the name of a HireOrNoHire.com contest announced today.  Do you have a tale to end all tales?
